We use the official domestic competition regulations presented by USA Volleyball for all levels of volleyball in the United States including the following: • Any player signing in after 9:00AM or the official published start time will be deemed LATE and charged a $20.00 late charge, no exceptions. • Under rule, interfere with play, ball is dead. Any part of a player completely over the center line is a bad ball. • Net is a net. • Libero's in any format CAN serve for one player. • After first ball of the day is served all rosters are locked, no changes, no exception. • Whistles are required for both up and down referees. • All work teams must supply up and down refs, two line referees and scorekeeper. • Both up and down refs are required to use whistles for all calls. • Co-ed Six's: (min. 2 females on court at all times; teams may start/play with only 1 female but will forfeit 3 points/game). • Co-ed Six's: Teams that use a Female libero must have three qualified rostered female players at the event. • There must be at least two rostered females on the court at all times and no more than four male players on the court at all times. • A or AA tournaments only: Team playing with one female player ghost position losing a point every time the ghost comes around for service. • Absolutely no "AA" players are not allowed to play in B or BB level tournaments. • All games are played using rally scoring. • Warm-ups are five minutes between rounds no more or less. • The use of any electronic devices while refereeing is prohibited, anyone caught using a electronic device while referring will be removed from the gym and not invited to play to future VBLI tournaments. • During regular pool play all 4 team pools will play two (2) games to 25, cap 27 • During regular pool play all 5 team pools will play two (2) games to 18, cap 21. • Seating is based on and in the following and in the same order: Total wins, head to head, head to head points, over all tournament point differential. • Semifinals are single elimination, (1) game to 25, no cap. • Finals time permitting will be one or best of three games. First and second games are to 25 points, third game to 15 points, no cap.

Players must sign in by 9AM or the official start time to avoid a $10 late fee. Jumping on the court without signing in results in forfeiture of all games. Pool play rules vary by team count, with specific game and cap points. Seating is based on total wins, head-to-head results, and point differentials. Semifinals are single elimination, and finals are best of three games. Losing teams in playoffs must work the next match. Prizes are awarded to first-place teams and must be claimed in person.

Recreational A "Recreational" player is a Beginner. A Recreational player should know the basics of volleyball, and played some volleyball before, but he/she is just beginning to bump, set, and spike. A Recreational player should not RSVP to an event which includes "BB" or "A" level or Advanced players. B A "B" player is still in the early learning stages of the game but knows the skills. A "B" player knows how to bump, set (a little), and spike. But a "B" player has a lot of practice yet to go to be able to do these skills consistently. A "B" player makes mistakes often. BB A "BB" player knows where to be on the court at all times when plays are developing. He/she knows where to be when the opponent is hitting. A "BB" player knows the footwork of and how to approach hitting effectively. A "BB" player knows how to run a 5-1, a 6-2, and needlessly, a 4-2. A An "A" player is somewhere between "BB" and "AA". They know all the skills extremely well but cannot always execute the super-high level plays extremely effectively all the time. "A" players can run combination plays in a basic way if passes are good. That includes slides, tandems, x's, crosses, and back-row hitting. AA An "AA" player is able to dig an USAV Division I Player's attack hit or able to once in a while put a ball down as a hitter against an Division I Team. An adult AA team of players would be able to beat a college Division I team of their same sex at least some of the time. Note: At no time can a AA player play in a B or BB level tournament. OPEN An "OPEN" player typically has had intensive training for national tournament competition at the semi-professional level.

Indoors • Actual check in time depends on the event start time, however check in is always 30 minutes prior to the event start time. • Please see individual tournament details page for more information. Outdoors • Sign-in starts at 8:00AM and runs until 9:00AM on the day of the event.

You can have up to twelve players on a team. However, your entry fee only covers seven. ​​​​​​​ Each additional player over seven on a team is required to pay an additional $25.00/per player at the event.

Generally and unless otherwise noted, events are over by 5PM

Are we responsible for bringing whistles - Yes. For health reasons we don't provide community whistles. We sell whistles at the event, if someone forgets theirs home. ​
